(Trump.news) Summer of discontent. For some, hating presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump has become all-consuming, so much so that they feel they must resort to violence and intimidation in what amounts to a vain attempt to shut the candidate and his supporters down. As reported by several outlets, things got ugly again in New Mexico last night as a Trump rally was interrupted by agitators who wound up clashing with (and injuring some) police officers. As The Associated Press reports:
In one of the presidential campaign year’s more grisly spectacles, protesters in New Mexico opposing Donald Trump’s candidacy threw burning T-shirts, plastic bottles and other items at police officers, injuring several, and toppled trash cans and barricades.
Police responded by firing pepper spray and smoke grenades into the crowd outside the Albuquerque Convention Center.
During the rally, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee was interrupted repeatedly by protesters, who shouted, held up banners and resisted removal by security officers.
The banners included the messages “Trump is Fascist” and “We’ve heard enough.”
There was some good news as well: As usual, the venue was packed to the hilt and one attendee, an Albuquerque attorney, correctly described the agitators and their actions. “This was not a protest, this was a riot. These are hate groups.” Exactly right. While blaming Trump for being a hater (pledging to enforce immigration law is not ‘hate’), his detractors prove who the real haters are. Read the full report here.
And then this happened. For the record, our candidate inched closer to the nomination last night with a primary victory in Washington state, and in resounding fashion, pulling in more than 77 percent of the vote.
His delegate count now stands at 1,209; he needs 1,237 to win outright.
Speaking of the media, Trump labeled most outlets as “slime” during his New Mexico for questioning motives and the amount of money raised at a campaign event earlier this year for military veterans. The Washington Times has that:
The Washington Post reported Tuesday that the Trump camp has sent mixed signals about how much money had been raised at the event earlier this year. It also reported that the New York businessman finally followed through on his promise to donate $1 million to veterans four months after vowing to do so, and after being badgered by media outlets.
Speaking in Albuquerque, Mr. Trump said he raised between $5.5 to $5.7 million for veterans, and said groups had to be vetted before the money was doled out.
He described the media as “dishonest slime” and said “I didn’t have to raise 10 cents.” There’s more, here.
There will be no right-wing revolt from Donald Trump, writes The New York Daily News’ columnist George Hawley:
Despite firing every weapon in their arsenal, the conservative pundit class failed to thwart Donald Trump’s conquest of the Republican Party. They, and especially those who carried the banner of #NeverTrump during the final months of the GOP primaries, face a dilemma: Get behind Trump, hoping to defeat Hillary Clinton and at least wield some influence in Washington, sit out the election (or even support Clinton) — or break with the GOP and back a third-party candidate.
Although it is late in the year to organize a new campaign without an existing party’s label, conservatives like Bill Kristol are actively pitching the idea. Such an effort would be a total fiasco for conservatives.
No matter the candidate, a third-party presidential nominee dedicated to conservative purity would be an absolute electoral failure.
Conservative elites, who speak for some number of principled Republicans, despise Trump because he is not a “true conservative.” They are right about that; he is not really a conservative.
But they are wrong to believe this represents a major electoral problem for him.
The problem with the GOP elite is that they have not spoken for the party’s rank-and-file for years. Trump does that, regardless of his lack of traditional conservative bona fides. Much more, here.
Oh, and ICYMI: The uber-Left-wing Salon predicted a Trump victory in November just recently, and why. Here it is.
