Though much attention has been focused over the past several days on former President Obama and the corruption he fostered at the Justice Department and FBI, Hillary Clinton — Obama’s first secretary of state — is about to be outed as the person who corrupted the State Department.
It has long been suspected by many that Clinton used her State Department gig to enrich herself and her family’s foundation all while allowing foreign countries to ingratiate themselves to who she — and they — believed would be the next U.S. president.
Now, it appears that one legal watchdog organization has found the evidence.
The American Center for Law and Justice, led by one of President Donald Trump’s attorneys, Jay Sekulow, is set to receive some 30,000 emails “about the extent to which the Clinton State Department colluded with the Clinton Foundation,” said a statement from the organization.
“Despite what Hillary Clinton told the American people, there was no firewall” between her and the foundation during her tenure as the nation’s top diplomat.
The ACLJ filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the State Department after the agency refused to hand over requested documents and emails detailing Clinton’s interactions with her family’s foundation during her tenure at Foggy Bottom.
In the press release the organization said, “we have been informed that the State Department has located – and will be forced to turn over to the ACLJ – literally thousands of documents to and about the Clinton Foundation, its subsidiaries, and its senior operatives during the duration of Hillary Clinton’s time as Secretary of State.
“The shear volume alone – some 30,000 emails – debunks the specious assertion that there was any kind of firewall whatsoever between Clinton’s State Department and the Clinton Foundation,” the release noted further, claiming that Hillary turned State into “a favor factory” for outside interests. The ACLJ says the documents show “extensive communications” between Clinton or her senior State Department staff and Doug Band, a senior official at the foundation and creator of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI).
The release notes further:
In recent court filings, the State Department has revealed that more than 8,700 documents exist in Cheryl Mills’ and/or Huma Abedin’s files which contain the single search term, “Doug Band.” It is possible, and indeed likely, that each document consists of several pages placing the number closer to 18,000 pages or more.
The ACLJ has also learned through our litigation that another 22,000 documents exist in Cheryl Mills’ and Huma Abedin’s files (not including attachments) mentioning or referring to the Clinton Foundation or a related term referencing the foundation.
Clearly, the organization believes it has found a treasure trove of corruption. But more than that, the ACLJ notes that the documents prove — yet again — that Clinton “intentionally lied to the American people” and even mislead members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee during her confirmation hearings in 2009.
During testimony and on several occasions, Clinton reassured committee members that she would ensure complete separation — lots of daylight — between her State Department and the Clinton Foundation as a way to prevent foreign governments from donating just so they could ‘purchase’ favors from her at a later date.
She informed the Senate as early as 2009 that measures had been put in place to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest. But as it turns out, what really happened was so much different than what Clinton promised would happen.
“Indeed, in just the most recent 89 pages of documents produced by State which mention Doug Band, it is clear that Band served as a liaison for Clinton donors looking for favors and official acts from the Clinton-run State Department,” said the ACLJ.
There will be more coming. Stay tuned.
