The Democrats and their sycophantic allies in the “mainstream” media are so afflicted with “Trump Derangement Syndrome” it has severely inhibited their abilities to think critically and logically.
That helps explain why they, at one point, actually considered attorney to the porn stars Michael Avenatti a viable candidate to run against POTUS Donald Trump.
Democrats and the fake news media aren’t saying that now, however: Avenatti, who has been ridden with scandal for months, has now been indicted by federal prosecutors over so many counts of fraud he faces hundreds of years in prison if convicted.
The Associated Press reported that Avenatti, 48, was charged by a Southern California grand jury “in a 36-count federal indictment alleging he stole millions of dollars from clients, did not pay his taxes, committed bank fraud and lied in bankruptcy proceedings.”
These charges are in addition to others filed in New York last month after he was arrested on two related counts for allegedly attempting to extort sportswear giant Nike for as much as $25 million. (Related: Michael Avenatti, former attorney of Stormy Daniels who tried to destroy Trump, charged with extortion threats against Nike.)
Avenatti, who came from relative obscurity to fame when he came to represent porn actress Stormy Daniels in lawsuits against the president, says he’ll plead not guilty.
“I look forward to the entire truth being known as opposed to a one-sided version meant to sideline me,” he said in a statement.
The Los Angeles Times noted further:
Avenatti stole millions of dollars from five clients and used a tangled web of shell companies and bank accounts to cover up the theft, the Santa Ana grand jury alleged in an indictment that prosecutors made public Thursday.
And, speaking to Avenatti’s ‘alleged’ dearth of ethics and class, the Times noted further:
One of the clients, Geoffrey Ernest Johnson, was a mentally ill paraplegic on disability who won a $4-million settlement of a suit against Los Angeles County. The money was wired to Avenatti in January 2015, but he hid it from Johnson for years, according to the indictment.
Avenatti also stands accused of receiving $2.75 million as part of proceeds from another client’s settlement but also hid that as well. The indictment claims that the porn attorney placed $2.5 million of that money into buying a private jet for Passport 420 LLC, which was a shell company he essentially owned.
But by then, according to prosecutors, Avenatti owed millions in back taxes, and his Newport Beach-based law firm, Eagan Avenatti, was just a few weeks away from going bankrupt.
“Michael Avenatti allegedly stole from his clients, and he stole from the IRS,” Ryan L. Korner, head of the Internal Revenue Service criminal investigations in Los Angeles, told the Times. “The money was used to fuel a lavish lifestyle that had no limits, including making mortgage payments on a multimillion-dollar home in Laguna Beach and purchasing a private plane.”
If convicted on all counts, Avenatti faces an impossible-to-serve 335 years in prison, just from the California charges. He faces up to 47 more stemming from his charges in New York.
Let’s not forget this is the ‘potential 2020 Democratic candidate’ who, according to Bill Scher at Politico, was capable of “using his considerable media skills and political instincts to frame the contest around how far Democrats should go when wielding power, and to pressure his rivals to follow his cue.”
He’s also the one HBO bomb-thrower Bill Maher of “Real Time” predicted “could be the Trump of 2020, the guy who’s the outsider, who blows through the regular politician because he looks different.”
Avenatti even said of himself in September when contemplating a 2020 presidential run: “If I decide to do this, I’m going to surprise a lot of people.”
And boy, has he.
