Kelli Ward, chairwoman of the Arizona Republican Party, said in an interview that her state’s branch of the GOP is going to push for a very thorough investigation regarding the widespread allegations of voter fraud and election irregularities.
“We are going to turn over every rock looking for slime that is infecting our election integrity,” said Ward during an interview with Newsmax. “There are so many irregularities that we are seeing on the ground here in Arizona that must be investigated.”
“We have questions whether ballots that were pushed through the machine by the poll worker pushing the green button to override protections have actually been counted… We have evidence and complaints of people that do not live in Arizona, but they’re being notified by the elections department ‘Thank you for voting,’ and actually even getting surveys to comment how the election process went for them. We have evidence of people who have passed away casting ballots.”
Ward further stated that the election is “far from over,” and that her goal in pushing for an investigation is not necessarily to overturn the election results and give all of Arizona’s electoral college votes to President Donald Trump. Rather, Ward wants to assure the people of her state that they can put their faith in the electoral process once more, and the only way this can be done is by making sure all of the alleged irregularities are investigated and dealt with.
Ward has called for an enhanced audit to be conducted in Maricopa County, the state’s most populated county. Her push to investigate Maricopa echoes similar calls made by three of the state’s Republican members of Congress, Reps. Andy Biggs, Paul Gosar and David Schweikert. They have urged the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors to manually audit every single ballot that was cast in the county.
These Republican representatives are concerned over allegations that the integrity of the county’s election systems may be compromised.
Maricopa County election officials have already conducted a mandatory hand count audit. But this audit only covered two percent of vote centers and one percent of early ballots. After this audit, they confidently said that there was no evidence of system malfunctions, voter fraud or misconduct from election workers.
This is not enough for the Republican Party, as they have alleged that the county’s hand count audit is a violation of state law because the audit was done on vote centers, which are open to any voter in the country, rather than on assigned voter precincts. The GOP said that a precinct-based hand count audit would produce more precise election results.
Unfortunately, the Arizona Republican Party is unlikely to get this kind of thorough election investigation because a Maricopa County Superior Court judge threw out the GOP’s lawsuit seeking this new audit. The judge, John Hannah, even said that the Secretary of State’s Office can seek payment for attorney’s fees from the Arizona GOP. Hannah cited a state law that allows such actions to be undertaken when a plaintiff tries to bring a claim that is without substance or solely to delay or harass the other party.
Ward denounced this ruling as a failure on the part of the state to address the concerns of Arizona’s voters, stating that they “deserve to have complete trust in their election procedures.”
She has since stated that she will continue to do everything she can to call for a full hand count audit.
