A Delaware judge has ruled that Hunter Biden, the infamous son of President Joe Biden, is guilty of violating federal gun laws related to the possession of a firearm while addicted to drugs.
In 2018, Hunter lied on a gun form that he was not a drug addict when in fact he was using crack cocaine at the time. As such, Hunter was found guilty of three federal charges, making him the first son of a sitting president to be convicted in federal court.
Hunter could now face up to 25 years in prison for his crimes, though because he is the president’s son it is expected that he will receive a much more lenient sentence due to his last name.
During the week-long trial, the jury heard details about Hunter’s history with using drugs, as well as testimony from his various former romantic partners. The jury also got to see Hunter’s personal messages and private photos from his laptop, which was dropped off at a Delaware repair shop prior to the 2020 election.
Reports indicate that Hunter’s ex-wife, along with two ex-girlfriends, testified before the jury about Hunter’s crack cocaine use and failed efforts to get clean.
Hallie Biden, the late widow of Hunter’s brother Beau and a key witness who had a short-term romantic relationship with Hunter, took the stand to reveal that she found a revolver in Hunter’s truck in October 2018. She panicked and threw the weapon in a store garbage can where it was later found.

The prosecution also presented texts showing that Hunter was trying to buy drugs around the same time that he purchased the gun. In one text to Hallie, Hunter admitted to smoking crack, though the defense tried to argue that Hunter did not actually mean this and was only attempting to scare Hallie away from him.
“We ask you [to] find the law applies equally to this defendant as it would to anyone else,” said prosecutor Derek Hines to the jury in his closing argument. “When he chose to lie and buy a gun, he violated the law. We ask you [to] return the only verdict supported by the evidence: guilty.”
Prosecutors, by the way, did try to secure a plea deal with Hunter back in 2023, but that failed after the judge in the case criticized it.
Hunter’s defense team in its closing argument tried to claim that they had successfully proven their case “seven ways to Sunday.” They also blasted the prosecution’s presentation of evidence against Hunter as “ugly.”
In a public show of support for his son, President Biden had the following to say about the case:
“As the president, I don’t and won’t comment on pending federal cases, but as a dad, I have boundless love for my son, confidence in him, and respect for his strength.”
While this is certainly a promising development, keep in mind that neither Hunter nor his dad Joe have yet to pay restitution for their involvement in shady Ukrainian deals like Burisma, which remain unpunished.
“It will be another miscarriage of justice when it comes to imprisonment,” wrote a commenter about how Biden is sure to get off easy for these federal crime convictions.
“In a corrupt, multi-tier ‘justice’ system, this means nothing,” wrote another, emphasizing that same point.
