Microsoft co-founder and technocrat Bill Gates has reportedly shelled out $50 million as a donation to a political action committee (PAC) linked to Vice President Kamala Harris.
The Washington Times (WT) reported on the development, citing an Oct. 22 report by the New York Times (NYT). Three people briefed on the matter confirmed Gates’ $50 million donation to the Future Forward PAC, which backs the incumbent vice president and Democratic presidential nominee.
“Gates has talked about his pro-Harris donation with his peers including Mike Bloomberg, the former New York City mayor and a major supporter of Future Forward – who has considered a similarly-sized gift,” NYT reported, citing two of the three tipsters.
According to NYT, the donation was intended to stay private. The PAC isn’t also required to disclose its donors, given its status as a 501(c)(4) organization. For his part, Gates neither confirmed nor denied the donation.
“I support candidates who demonstrate a clear commitment to improving health care, reducing poverty and fighting climate change in the U.S. and around the world,” he said in a statement in response to an earlier version of the NYT story. “I have a long history of working with leaders across the political spectrum. But this election is different, with unprecedented significance for Americans and the most vulnerable people around the world.”
“Gates … has generally avoided public partisanship, sending most of his donations to charitable outfits and to issue causes such as climate change. He has not publicly endorsed Harris,” WT noted.
The report of Gates’ donation to the Future Forward PAC came days after SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk poured at least $75 million into the America PAC, which he formed to support former President Donald Trump. (Related: Elon Musk pledges to donate $45 million PER MONTH to Donald Trump’s campaign.)
The NYT report further disclosed that Gates has “expressed concern” about events under a second Trump term, including potential cuts “to family planning and global health programs.” But according to Musk himself, the Microsoft co-founder is afraid of something bigger if the real estate mogul returns to the White House.
The owner of the X platform told former Fox News journalist Tucker Carlson during an Oct. 7 interview that Gates fears Trump releasing the full list of clients connected with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The financier was found dead in his jail cell in August 2019, while in custody at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City’s Manhattan borough.
Musk told Carlson that no one on the list, including several prominent billionaires, had been prosecuted. He also insinuated that the elites backing Harris is connected to the possibility of Trump releasing the Epstein client list – something they plan to avert by supporting the Democratic nominee.
“Some of those billionaires behind Kamala are terrified of that outcome,” the X owner remarked, noting that Gates and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman are included in that group. According to the National Pulse, Hoffman visited Epstein’s island and Gates met with the financier multiple times.
Musk ultimately warned that democracy is at risk in the presidential election next month, adding that “if Trump wins, we can do some housecleaning.”
