During a recent appearance on the CBS show “Face the Nation,” Texas Senator Ted Cruz blasted Nancy Pelosi for using the so-called coronavirus “relief” bills as taxpayer-funded slush funds for “shoveling money to her friends.”
Discussing the latest proposed “aid” package with Margaret Brennan, Cruz indicated that he does not support it because it enriches politicians and their friends while doing nothing to fix the problem.
“We have over 44 million Americans who have lost their jobs, and we have got to get America back to work,” Cruz stated. “Unfortunately, I have listened to your interview with Speaker Pelosi, and her objectives are focused on neither of those.”
“Her objectives are shoveling cash at the problem and shutting America down,” Cruz added. “And in particular, you look at the $3 trillion bill she’s trying to push. It’s just shoveling money to her friends and not actually solving the problem.”
In Cruz’s view, the number one priority should be to get Americans back to work so they can provide for their families, rather than continue to have politicians like Pelosi divvy out taxpayer money to their crony comrades.
When asked what kind of unemployment benefits Cruz would prefer to see handed out, if any, he responded by talking about the additional $600 per week that the Democrats are pushing on top of the unemployment system.
The problem with this, he says, is that nearly 70 percent of the people currently receiving unemployment benefits plus the federal weekly disbursement are now being paid more than they were when they were actually working. Because of this, many have no desire to even go back to work, especially in places like California that are so corruptly managed that they are racking up insurmountable debt.
“I’ve spoken to small business owners all over the state of Texas who are trying to reopen and they’re calling their waiters and waitresses, they’re calling their busboys, and they won’t come back,” Cruz lamented.
“And, of course, they won’t come back because the federal government is paying them, in some instances, twice as much money to stay home.”
Parroting statements made by President Trump about the issue, Cruz is instead in favor of suspending the payroll tax, which he says would give “a pay raise to everyone in America who’s working.”
When pressed about the fact that the vast majority of Americans approve of having more stimulus and benefit money disbursed as opposed to sending people back to work, Cruz reiterated that he supports “restarting the economy” more than anything else.
“The only objective Democrats have is to defeat Donald Trump, and they’ve cynically decided the best way to defeat Donald Trump is to shut down every business in America, and shut down every school in America,” Cruz added.
“You know, Nancy Pelosi talks about working men and women. What she’s proposing is keeping working men and women from working. And, you know, ironically, what she does have in her bill? She has a big tax cut for millionaires and billionaires in blue states.”
According to a recent CBS poll, three out of every four Republicans approves of extending stimulus and benefit disbursements, along with 82 percent of independents and 92 percent of Democrats.
“As Tucker says, we are effectively taken hostage having to choose within the morass of D.C. between corrupted, shiftless, and spineless GOP and an outright communist DNC,” wrote one Breitbart News commenter.
“You cannot vote DNC unless you are either a communist sympathizer or a baboon.”
