Richard Grenell, former acting Director of National Intelligence, said that the 2020 presidential election was filled with irregularities, and that the Trump campaign’s investigations into voter fraud in Nevada are being stalled by officials trying to run out the clock.
“We have been on the ground in Nevada for a while and looking into all sorts of claims of voter fraud,” said Grenell during an interview with The Epoch Times on their program, American Thought Leaders. “And we’ve developed a very long list of concerning episodes.”
Grenell is supporting President Donald Trump’s legal campaign to get the election results in several key battleground states overturned due to the rampant allegations of voter fraud. Grenell himself is focusing his efforts on contesting the election results in Nevada.
Grenell points out that one of the problems in his investigation and his ongoing legal battle is the claim coming from Democrats, state and local government officials and the mainstream media that the Trump campaign doesn’t have any proof of voter fraud. This, Grenell says, is patently untrue and is an attack being used by the president’s enemies to hinder the electoral contests.
“The reality is that the ballots and the envelopes are in the possession of local governments like the [Clark County, Nevada] officials. We can raise the red flags, we can raise the concerning information and we can point to the publicly available information that suggests voter fraud, but we can’t have access to the ballots or to the envelopes that have the signatures on it.”
Grenell has lamented the fact that he and his team have been trying to reach out to Clark County officials to access their records and election data. These same officials have said that they cannot provide this data unless the Trump campaign can show proof of voter irregularities – proof which they have.
When Grenell was able to get a local judge to say that Clark County officials had to give the Trump campaign’s legal team access to the information they require, they were still prevented from conducting a full investigation.
“What we got was a tour of the place,” said Grenell. “It was not what the judge ordered.” County officials denied not providing Grenell and Trump’s legal team with the information they needed. Grenell said state and local officials appear to have adopted a strategy of delaying the Trump campaign as long as they can in order to “run out the clock” until the Electoral College meets and Congress certifies their votes.
Nevada District Court Judge James Russell, who ordered Clark County officials to allow the Trump campaign to investigate their records and their voting machines, denied the campaign’s appeal to throw out several thousand illegal mail-in ballots and thereby nullify Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s electoral win in the state.
In response, the campaign’s legal team is appealing the case to the Nevada Supreme Court. The appeal was added to their docket on Monday, Dec. 7. No hearing date has been set, and as of press time, the Trump campaign has not filed any additional documents for their case.
The electors for Joe Biden were confirmed by Nevada’s legislature on Nov. 24. They have been named as the defendants, while the Trump campaign’s proposed slate of electors are the plaintiffs. The whole Electoral College is expected to meet next week to lock in their votes for president.
Lawyers representing Biden’s electors have filed a counter-motion asking the Nevada Supreme Court to reaffirm Russell’s decision, arguing that the concerns have already been either resolved or junked, as well as citing the “safe harbor law,” the date by which a state has to lock in their Electoral College representatives with the U.S. Congress if it has resolved all electoral contests.
“Immediate resolution of the appeal is needed to bring certainty and stability to the people of Nevada – and the entire nation – in advance of pending deadlines related to the casting and counting of votes by presidential electors,” wrote the attorneys for the Democratic electors.
Biden’s legal team has also called the Trump campaign’s appeal “frivolous,” arguing that the Supreme Court, which has every right to overturn the decisions of lower courts, would have to disagree with Russell’s “well-considered and well-supported legal conclusions that were based on those factual findings.”
The Nevada Republican Party responded to the Supreme Court appeal by stating that they will ask the courts to expedite the process and consider their appeal as soon as possible. They also pledged to continue fighting “for election integrity.”
