Medically retired firefighter and United States Navy veteran Chad Caton slammed South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster and Lieutenant Governor Pamela Sue Evette for manipulating elections within the South Carolina Republican Party (SC GOP) by promising a candidate a “sure-fire” win in the primaries.
“We have a problem in our GOP and in our elections. Basically, everything in our politics is upside down and happening in the red states. It’s easy for us to look at the liberals but we don’t fix our own backyard,” Caton said in the latest episode of “I’m Fired Up” on Brighteon.TV.
This was after his guest Shannon Grady, former chairwoman of the Orange County Republican Women, exposed how certain government officials offered a candidate to rig election results via “quid pro quo” – a Latin term that describes a situation when two parties engage in a mutual agreement to exchange goods or services reciprocally.
“There were seven or eight people running for the 7th congressional district at one point in time. Of course, some of them dropped out and went other directions,” Grady said and added that the SC GOP leadership, including the governor, wanted fewer candidates for the elections.
“So, they were reaching out to various candidates who were pulling well and saying, ‘Okay, let’s offer you something else.’ Then they offered one particular candidate an opportunity to fill another position that was up for election as well,” she further revealed.
Grady knew that the leadership team has some undue influence on the outcome of the elections. She eventually resigned from her position at the Horry County Republican Women’s Club.
Caton commented: “I am not anti-Republican. [But] I am anti-establishment because these people are legitimately steamrolling and trying to bully America-first MAGA patriots – literally hunting them across America.” (Related: We must restore America’s faith in its elections.)
The host also pointed out that as stipulated in the party bylaws, Party chair Drew McKissick should resign immediately.
Elsewhere in the show, Caton spoke with John Cummings, who taught U.S. history for 22 years and lost to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) in New York’s 14th Congressional District back in 2020.
According to him, his campaign was mainly supported by his students and fundraising.
“We got campaign donations from all 50 states. I went to Washington and met with the [National Republican Congressional Committee] NRCC. And they made it quite obvious from the beginning that they weren’t going to help me because it was a seven-to-one Democrat district,” he said.
He had a campaign manager, a digital guy, a treasurer and one fundraiser.
“We outraised every non-income within the country without any help. We raised about $12 million,” he said. But he also figured that he really needed help with the press.
He lamented how he did not get the same media exposure as AOC.
“There are six local channels up there: CBS, NBC, Fox, ABC, then there’s a Fox hybrid. And then there is an independent and we didn’t get one second of television coverage,” he said.
“Ocasio-Cortez did a great job making herself nationally known. She’s probably the most visible person in the house other than Speaker [Nancy] Pelosi. And my story when you contrast it, a guy who lived and worked in the district for 60 years, with 30 years of service, based on good journalism, my story checks all the boxes for news-worthy coverage.”
But he admitted that he was not a particular point of interest for the New York media. “And at that, no matter how much money you raise, if you’re not on the news, you’re not news, period, no matter how many spots you run. And we didn’t run a lot of commercials in the new Euro pockets, because they’re so expensive.”
