The campaign of Donald Trump has effectively merged with the growing business empire of Elon Musk after the electric vehicle (EV) tycoon made another recent appearance at a Trump rally to discuss his plans for slashing federal government spending by “at least $2 trillion.”
Trump recently appointed Musk to head up a new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to audit the federal government in search of programs to cut. At a recent Trump rally inside Madison Square Garden in New York, Musk promised to save the American people trillions of dollars if Trump wins.
After earlier claiming to be politically neutral, Musk has since come out full swing for Trump. After the first assassination attempt on Trump, Musk decided to publicly endorse the former president, to which Trump responded by promising to establish a “government efficiency” commission to be headed up by Musk.
“How much do you think we can cut from this wasted $6.5 trillion Harris-Biden budget?” the South African SpaceX leader shouted as he walked on the Trump rally stage.
“I think we can reduce the annual federal budget by at least $2 trillion per year. Your tax money is being wasted and the Department of Government Efficiency is going to fix that … At the end of the day, all government spending is taxation. Whether it’s direct taxation or government spending, it either leads to inflation or becomes direct taxation.”

DOGE, which is also the name of a cryptocurrency coin pushed by Musk, will be comprised, according to Trump, of an independent task force that will conduct “a complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government” as well as make “recommendations for the drastic reforms we need.”
How the panel will operate is an uncertainty as neither Trump nor Musk have publicly fleshed out anything more than talking points to loud, cheering crowds. It is also unclear which government policies, agencies and programs the DOGE program will eliminate.
Musk on other occasions in recent months has come out publicly to warn about the mounting U.S. debt toll, claiming it will cause the country to go bankrupt unless Trump is elected. Back in September, Musk came out to say that every additional trillion dollars of debt added to the national toll is money that “our kids and grandkids are going to have to pay somehow.”
If the national debt continues to grow at the current rate, Musk continued, then the country will become trapped in a vicious cycle where “the only thing we’ll be able to pay is interest.”
Musk admitted to Tucker Carlson earlier this month that he is “all in” on Trump because the alternative, should Trump lose, will mean that the former president is “****ed” and will probably end up in jail.
“I wonder whether Mr. Musk is going to tax himself and the like, or will he dare to only cut social care, as all those big mouths usually do?” one commenter asked.
“They will decrease spending on social programs for the majority while providing tax cuts for the well-heeled and generally mess up the economy,” suggested another.
A Trump supporter chimed in that he supports the idea of DOGE, claiming it is a sign that “the American wave is coming.”
