Two cryptocurrency tokens tied to U.S. President Donald Trump tanked after Democratic candidates won in various races in the 2026 midterm elections [1].
The Official Trump (TRUMP) token fell 17% over 24 hours to $1.33, while the World Liberty Financial (WLFI) token dropped more than 7% to $0.047, the report stated, citing market data [2][3].
Cointelegraph reported that TRUMP declined 17% over a 24-hour period to trade at $1.33, and that WLFI fell more than 7% to $0.047 [2][3]. Market data cited in the report came from CoinMarketCap [4]. Separate accounts placed the TRUMP decline at varying levels: Coinpedia reported that the memecoin dropped 19% in 24 hours to $1.25, about 98% below its January 2025 peak of $73.43, according to Coin Bureau data [5].
The differing figures reflect the timing of each measurement during a volatile trading session, according to the respective reports. The token-specific losses contrasted with gains in major cryptocurrencies. Cointelegraph reported that Bitcoin gained 4% and Ethereum rose 6% [1].
The elections were held on Tuesday, Nov. 3, and the token movement was recorded on Wednesday, Nov. 4. According to Cointelegraph, the price movement came after the midterm results were known [1]. The reports present the timing of the token declines and the election results as sequential events.
Market observers cited in the coverage described the divergence between the Trump-linked tokens and the wider market. According to CoinMarketCap, Bitcoin (BTC) rose more than 4% to around $80,500 while Ether (ETH) climbed by 6% to $2,433.
Other major cryptocurrencies also saw gains following the midterms. The BNB token saw a 3% rise, while the XRP token rose by 2.6% and the Solana (SOL) token climbed by 2.5%.
In contrast, other tokens linked to the real estate mogul saw similar plunges. The MELANIA memecoin linked to First Lady Melania Trump tanked almost 13% over a 24-hour span to around $0.066 – less than a dollar. Another token, the VANCE coin, also dropped nearly 12%. The VANCE coin is named after Vice President JD Vance, though it has no confirmed official connection to him.
The reporting establishes a sequence in which the token losses followed the midterm results. “Bitcoin and other established assets respond to a combination of liquidity, institutional flows and macroeconomic conditions, while politically linked tokens can be more sensitive to shifts in expectations around Washington,” said Benjamin Sarquis Pellard, founder and CEO of the decentralized platform Cap [1].
“The midterm results introduce a new layer of regulatory uncertainty, particularly around the pace and direction of digital asset legislation. For politically linked tokens, that uncertainty can have a more immediate impact because investor sentiment is partly tied to expectations around the political environment” [1].
